Talkin 'Bout My Generation

I remember causing a stir with a substitute teacher in my old grade 11 high school class one day. I didn't even mean too much by what I said to cause the stir. All I said was, "Your generation screwed up everything for us." The teacher got very upset. I clearly hit a nerve. Now, I'm not much for stereotyping a generation, because there are many people my age that I completely don't agree with. However, I think there is something to be said about how our societal expectations, both individually and as a whole, are hard to define these days. I always wondered what this decade would be called. There were the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's - 00's didn't have a good ring to it to me back in 1999. Maybe we were going to call these years the "Oh-Oh's!" Now that we are heading towards 2003, I can't help but concede that this is a decade of ZEROES. I can't wait to do the math as this decade unfolds. See you in 2010.

Meanwhile, a question by writer/editor Cary Tennis was posed to readers of his article on Salon.com and he asked: What is it like to be young today? I found the responses published very interesting. A 5 part series running this week called Love in the age of irony, the links are updated here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5. (all links open a new browser)
