Linger


Calm before the storm in my backyard.

Tonight in the same parking lot I saw four men trying to get out of the mall with a huge tv and a dvd player. Who steals from a major department store? The one guy dropped the big tv box and then they all ran to their car except for one of them. Who runs to their car in that situation? They drove away and picked up their friend who was walking away from the scene. A bystander slammed on the window as they drove away. Hero of the day. His wife yelled out that he was trying to stop them. Her nails were not chipped if I could take a guess. So they drove away quickly with their lights off. The security guard caught their license plate and radioed it in. I asked if he needed any help as they were driving away. He said no. I then went inside the mall to get a gift certificate because the first one that was purchased wasn't enough.

I once saw a man getting beat up in public on my way to work in the big city and everyone pretended it wasn't happening. When that happened I remember thinking about how some people worry about getting their morning coffee and newspaper while others worry about getting no blood spilled on them in the morning.
