'Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose'
I decided to take a trip this weekend for a long overdue visit to Chicago to visit friends and the city was everything I expected and more. Arriving onto the Skyway and approaching the Lakeshore during sunrise at 6:15 am was amazing and not planned as I had to pull over twice during the course of the evening to sleep as my eyes were beginning to close on the road.
After having an early breakfast I went over to a lab where my friend is doing some experiments on some rats and had a good tour of the city on our way there before the stores opened and while it was still fairly quiet. I decided that I would wake up the next morning to go on a bike ride along the Lakeshore.
Afternoon quickly hit and there was a baseball game on so we headed to Wrigley field to soak in the atmosphere.
The rest of the day consisted of drinking and visiting the local bars, of which there were plenty. I met a woman through my friends who was training for a marathon and running in the morning along the Lakeshore so we decided over a beer or two that we would wake up and do the trek together as I had planned to get up to do that anyway. Little did I know that my Lakeshore tour would be about 2 hours and 15 miles in distance. I got to soak in the city again and it was an excellent tour.
During my visit, I had a chance to visit an old Al Capone hangout, The Green Mill. We were fortunate enough to catch an amazing performance by the Brad Goode/Curtis Fuller quintet. When I thought of Chicago before I arrived there this weekend I used to associate the city and imagine it with places exactly like The Green Mill. Dim, dark, good music, a diverse and wide range of age groups and backgrounds took the performance in.
Go to Chicago.
