Personal Jesus
Johnny Cash's cover of Personal Jesus makes me want to start a cult. What a great version. I recently heard his album that consisted of cover songs and it was really out there. He covered everyone from the Nine Inch Nails to The Beatles.
Here's your Manchurian Candidate link of the week (sourced from University of California - Irvine). The mind is a fascinating thing.
Smoking vs. Non-Smoking:
Once again, I am living in a city that is dealing with the whole smoking vs. non-smoking issue in restaurants and bars. This happened while I lived in Ottawa as well. I don't smoke anymore, however, I did smoke for many years and it didn't stunt my growth. Having coffee every morning from kindergarten to Grade 8 didn't stunt my growth either, but I digress.
You can all roll your eyes after you read the following, but I know I have a good point here. Sure, smoking may harm your lungs, but I believe the vehicles we drive are a bigger contributor to lung cancer. I challenge you to argue this, or I challenge some mad scientists to test this out for the exact statistics. Here's my case: If a group of people were to smoke tobacco products in a closed garage, they would be able to live for quite some time if food and water were supplied. Now, if that same group of people were in the same closed garage (not smoking this time), and a vehicle was running within that space, they would all be dead from the exhaust fumes coming from the vehicle within minutes. No food or water necessary. (See also: smog, air pollution, etc.)
If smoking is so bad and the government endorses that smoking is harmful, then why do they continue to sell tobacco products over the counter at the local variety store legally?
Restaurants and bar owners should have the option to declare their establishments 'Smoking' or 'Non-Smoking' and let the public decide whether they want to enter the establishments or not on that premise. Seems democratic to me.
